For the last 30 years, the vineyards of Cascina Corte were uninhabited. My wife Amalia, and I, had the opportunity to view the area for the first time in 2001, and we fell in love with the beauty and culture of this place. We felt that Cascina Corte was the right place for us to make changes in our lives, and so we purchased the vineyards and buildings shortly afterwards. We are Amalia Battaglia and Sandro Barosi.

I trained originally as a doctor, and for many years I was responsible for transplant logistics at Hospital Molinette in Turin. Today my time is spent looking after my young family, and overseeing the restoration of the farmhouse at Cascina Corte. In the future I would like to be more involved with the health of the vineyards and our wine production.

For many years I was employed as an international organiser for Slow Food International a position which gave me great opportunities to travel around the world. Carlin Petrini, Slow Food founder and philosopher, once said to me, ‘Sandro, watch that the earth is Slow.’ Well, Cascina Corte is my Slow project, and with my wife Amalia we are both the workers and the communicators.

Welcome to Cascina Corte.it
Cascina Corte is an organic farm, which we aim to use as a model for best organic production. It is also however a real working vineyard, which this year produced 15,000 bottles of Dolcetto variety wines, of two different qualities: a Dolcetto di Dogliani made from the grapes in the South of the vineyard, and a Cru obtained from the more valuable grapes of the Vigna Pirochetta. This part of the vineyard is exposed to the East, and the vines here are over 60 years old.
Here at Cascina Corte, the development of our wine is closely followed by two production professionals. Giuseppe Caviola is our winemaker, and he is responsible for analyzing the wine, and making various recommendations during the different stages of production. Our second expert is Giampiero Romana, our agronomist. Gaimpiero works with us on the management of our vineyard, and recommends which rootstock to use for the new vines.

The name of the company, Cascina Corte, is taken from the farm-house situated at the centre of our vineyard. The remains of the house are the original structure, and it has been found situated on maps which date back to the middle of the 17th century.
The house holds a lot of interest from an architectural point of view, and has been subject to a thorough restoration, in keeping with the original style. The restoration should be completed later this year, and we look forward to opening the new building to visitors and guests.
We are particularly fortunate with the position of the farmhouse, situated on the ridge of the hill, guests will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of Dogliani from the front, and the old-town of Monforte from the back.
All around the farm-house extend the vineyards of Cascina Corte, which have aged beautifully, and date back to the late 40’s and 50’s, from when wine production in the area was restored after the war.
